SEOUL -- South Korea's two top oil refining companies, SK Energy and GS Caltex, put aside their bitter rivalry to join hands for a new joint delivery service using a nationwide network of their gas stations.

A pilot project for the customer-to-customer (C2C) courier service called "Homepick" would be launched in Seoul this month. The two companies plant to expand their service nationwide in September. "We have worked together on ways to create new value by combining the core assets of the two companies and decided to launch a C2C courier service as the first collaboration model," they said in a statement.

Unlike the business-to-consumer (B2B) service, which is the mainstream of the courier market, Homepick specializes in interpersonal courier services using gas stations. Courier service will be done on online orders through delivery apps operated by companies such as Naver and KakaoTalk, the two major web service companies.

Intermediary logistics start-ups will visit customers and deliver goods to a nearby gain station for transportation by CJ Logistics, the county's largest parcel delivery company. The domestic courier service market is saturated with start-ups focusing on food delivery. Homepick aims to provide convenience to customers and reduce delivery time.
