SEOUL -- Female singer Jeon So-mi left an intriguing message through an Instagram post as the 17-year-old quit her management agency, JYP Entertainment, after her contract expired.

"The darkest nights produce the brightest stars. You guys are my everything," Jeon wrote. It was her first Instagram post in three months. Tens of thousands of fans left comments supporting her.

Jeon, who was a JYP trainee, began her professional career in 2016 when she participated in Produce 101, a cable TV audition survival show. After becoming the most popular participant, she joined the project band I.O.I with 10 other survivors. She had stayed with JYP since I.O.I ended eight months of successful activities in January. Many fans have awaited her debut.
