SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics, the world's largest smartphone maker, made a strategic move to challenge Apple in the U.S. market by releasing two new color variant models of "Galaxy Note 9", the company's latest phablet phone released on August 24.

Samsung said in a statement that it would release Cloud Silver, a classic metallic silver colored model, and Midnight Black, a pitch-black themed model, in October. The Cloud Silver model will be available only in selected U.S. stores.

"Users in the U.S. now have four different styles to choose from when they’re looking to make a statement and stand out from the crowd," Samsung said. While Note 9 was released in three colors -- Midnight Black, Lavender Purple and Metallic Copper -- at home, there are only two color themes -- Lavender Purple and Ocean Blue -- currently available in the U.S.

Apple released its premium smartphones -- iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max -- into the global market on September 21 and its new models come in three colors -- Gold, Space Grey and Silver.
