SEOUL -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un expressed his belief that a "good program" would be made soon for his second summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, citing a "positively developing" situation on the Korean peninsula, according to Pyongyang's official news agency.
At talks Sunday with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Pyongyang, Kim expressed his "will and conviction" that great progress would surely be made in solving the issues of utmost international concerns, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Monday.
"There was an agreement on the issue of holding the working negotiation for the second (North Korea)-U.S. summit talks as early as possible, and relevant procedure-related issues and ways were also discussed," it said.
Satisfied with "productive and wonderful" talks with Pompeo, Kim expressed his belief that a good program for the second summit would be provided sooner or later, KCNA said,
After the third inter-Korean summit in September, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said that Kim wanted a quick second summit with Trump and expressed his willingness to focus on economic development through an early conclusion of denuclearization talks.
Moon said Kim is willing to take additional measures such as the permanent shutdown of nuclear facilities at the North's Yongbyon complex if Washington takes "corresponding" steps as agreed in his June summit with Trump.
Pompeo met with Kim for three and a half hours and flew to Seoul later to brief Moon on the results of his fourth trip to Pyongyang. Moon's office said Washington and Pyongyang would form working-level negotiation teams to discuss North Korea's denuclearization process and arrange the Trump-Kim summit.
