SEOUL -- LS Cable & System, a major cable manufacturer in South Korea, has clinched a $125 million contract to install high voltage cables for Bahrain's power transmission network.

The contract was awarded by Bahrain's Electricity and Water Authority (EWA), LS Cable said, adding it would build a 400-kilovolt power transmission network aimed at upgrading Bahrain's electricity transmission grid.

"This is significant because we won a huge project based on our technology, in the Middle East market, which has been stagnant in recent years," LS Cable CEO Myung Roe-hyun said, vowing to secure additional deals as Bahrain continues to upgrade its energy infrastructure with a new high-voltage power transmission network to strengthen its electricity supply for industrial growth.

LS Cable, which produces power and telecom cables and systems, as well as integrated modules and other related industrial materials, has been involved in a number of projects abroad. On October 1, the company announced a deal to supply high voltage cables for Denmark's largest energy company Orsted involved in a massive wind farm project in the North Sea.
