SEOUL -- An odd public petition was posted this week on South Korea's presidential website with a daughter calling for a death penalty to her father who is suspected of killing his ex-wife.

The petition was posted on Tuesday, a day after police arrested a 49-year-old man identified by his surname Kim on charges of murdering his 47-year-old ex-wife with a knife in an apartment parking lot in Seoul.

"My dad is an atrocity criminal who has to be isolated from society forever," the petitioner said. She insisted her father should be sentenced to death, describing him as a "scary" person who stabbed the ex-wife with a knife multiple times in a premeditated crime.

The daughter claimed that her mother had suffered death threats for four years since she got divorced due to terrible domestic violence by Kim.

The presidential website for public petitions has become a place for active public debate since President Moon Jae-in, a former human rights lawyer, took office in March last year. Moon has used the website to collect public opinion.
