SEOUL -- Hyundai Mobis, a leading car parts maker in South Korea, developed a new adaptive smart headlamp, which efficiently stops a high beam mode from blinding drivers coming from the opposite direction in tough road situations such as an S-shaped curve.

Adaptive headlamps are a safety feature commonly found in premium vehicles with an advanced driver-assistant system (ADAS) which collects data from cameras, sensors and radars to analyze on-road conditions. Smart lamps increase visibility for safe driving at night or in low-light conditions by turning the beam away from the opposite car, but the system sometimes reacts slowly.

Hyundai Mobis, affiliated with Hyundai Motor, said that its new adaptive headlamp called "advanced adaptive driving beam (AADB)" eliminates the danger of blinding oncoming cars. AADB calculates the curvature of the road ahead by using data collected from onboard cameras and radar, adjusting the angle of beams.

Hyundai Mobis has stepped up the development of new parts for autonomous cars by forging alliances with artificial intelligence (AI) and infotainment startups to acquire core technologies and competitiveness in the autonomous vehicle market.
