SEOUL -- YG Entertainment, home to famous K-pop artists such as BIGBANG, BLACKPINK, IKON and WINNER, will select a new boy band through open competition just among its trainees in a TV program titled "YG's Jewel Box" that will be aired from November 16.

YG's Jewel Box means a jewel box of YG Entertainment head Yang Hyun-seok who seldom let his artists out of his building to protect and hide them like jewels.

The contest will involve 29 male trainees aged between 14 and 19, Yang said on his blog, adding evaluation by viewers would be monitored and applied to his selection criteria. "YG has a lot of sweaty trainees waiting for their debut for a long time," he said.

Yang said the most appropriate time for the debut of YG's new boy band would be next year. "We are going to select those who have a good appearance and external appeal as well as talent and basic skills," he said, suggesting the new group would consist of five or more.
