SEOUL -- Palisade, Hyundai's new luxury flagship sport utility vehicle (SUV), will be released with a special driving mode which makes driving easier on snowy roads with an extra traction "Snow Mode."

Hyundai Motor's video released through its video journal website Tuesday highlighted Snow Mode, a feature which controls Palisade's power output on every wheel to maintain maximum traction. Palisade is the first South Korean SUV to feature the extra traction mode.

Traction control features are commonly found in many all-wheel-drive and two-wheel-drive vehicles. By using the feature, a car will control the rotation speed of the wheels to maintain a full grip on the road. Some foreign SUVs from Volvo and Toyota have a special traction mode for winter terrains, keeping them stable even on slippery roads.

According to Hyundai, its Snow Mode is a combined technology using an engine control unit (ECU), a brake system, an electronic stability control (ESC) unit and a differential unit which controls the rotation speed of each wheel.

The carmaker said that Palisade drivers can safely enjoy driving in different road conditions such as camping outdoors. Palisade will be showcased at a motor show in Los Angeles on November 28. It will hit the North American market in the summer of 2019.
