S. Korea decides to buy two more Green Pine radars from Israel

SEOUL -- South Korea decided to buy two more Green Pine radars produced by ELTA, an Israeli defense firm. The Green Pine early warning and fire control radar system has been deployed in South Korea, playing a vital role in detecting and intercepting North Korean ballistic missiles.

Two Green Pine radar systems with a range of more than 500 kilometers (310 miles) are in operation in South Korea. South Korea will buy two upgraded Green Pine systems with an extended range of up to 900 km from ELTA. a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries.

The decision was endorsed on Tuesday at a meeting chaired by Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo, according to the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), a state body in charge of procuring military equipment.
