SEOUL -- IZ*ONE, a new project band grouping nine South Korean and three Japanese girls picked through a joint TV audition, will officially debut in Japan next year, the group's agency said Thursday.

Off The Record Entertainment said in a statement that IZ*ONE's Japanese single album is scheduled for release on February 6. The group began promotional activities in Japan on Wednesday by performing the album's title song "La Vie en Rose" in a Japanese music show.

IZ*ONE sold some 80,000 copies of its first official Korean album "COLOR*IZ" in the first week of its release on October 29. The group topped the weekly digital albums chart of Oricon, Japan's prominent music chart company, in the first week of November. The band was created through a contest of 96 trainees at "Produce 48", the successor of South Korea's TV audition, Produce 101.
