SEOUL -- South Korean military-action film "Take Point" has topped the box-office on its opening day, getting ahead Hollywood blockbuster film "Aquaman".

Take Point bears a rare genre to the South Korean movie scene. Many moviegoers were attracted by the film's director, Kim Byung-woo, who received attention in 2013 with his action-thriller film "The Terror Live", and Ha Jung-woo, the main actor who starred in the record-breaking fantasy blockbuster "Along With the Gods" series.

Kim's adventurous attempt to mesmerize moviegoers with an unfamiliar genre was successful. Data released by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) showed that 219,141 people watched Take Point on its opening day on Wednesday, compared to 167,380 recorded by Aquaman.

Take Point depicts a story about a team of private military contractors (PMCs) infiltrating a secret bunker located in the demilitarized zone (DMZ), a four-kilometer-wide strip of land that has divided the Korean peninsula since an armistice accord ended the three-year conflict in 1953.

The film garnered good rating from viewers. According to a movie rating service provided by Naver, South Korea's largest web service company, Take Point received an average rating of 8.39 points out of 10 on its opening day.
