SEOUL -- South Korea's top telecom company, KT, partnered with domestic companies to use 5G technology for the development of an intelligent drone installed with a voice recognition system that enables non-experts to use voice control and prevent the risk of falling.

KT said Tuesday that it signed a memorandum of understanding with Sync Space, a voice recognition ground control system developer, and Woori Aviation, a drone developer using technology related to vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft.

Based on its 5G mobile network, KT will develop a drone capable of fly up to 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour that can be controlled by voice commands.

KT agreed with Korea Southern Power (KOSPO), a state utility company, to create a smart ecosystem for electricity generation using its 5G mobile network and Information and communications technology (ICT). The new drone will be used to check the safety of KOSPO's power plants.

KT has developed "Skyship", a mobile disaster command center platform that can be used for a high-tech network to fight disasters. KT said the platform is effective in finding survivors.

Many telecom companies and smartphone makers are gearing up for a 5G era which can be interlinked with fiber optic cables installed underground and the wireless internet to provide stable connection even in the worst cases.
