SEOUL -- For the first time in the world, South Korea's top telecom company KT will use 5G technology and ultra-high definition (UHD) video cameras this week to broadcast a live TV program jointly with SBS, one of the country's top three broadcasting companies.

KT said the live UHD service based on a 5G network set up in SBS would be demonstrated Tuesday during Mornight Wide, a variety, morning news show. The company would use 5G MNG (mobile news gathering) equipment.

In January, KT used its 5G network and UHD 4K video cameras to deliver the live footage of K-pop boy band Wanna One's farewell concert from a stadium in Seoul through its cable and mobile TV channels. 5G networks are ideal for transferring UHD video files.

KT Chairman Hwang Chang-Gyu told reporters during his visit to Tokyo last week that the Fourth Industrial Revolution is meaningless without 5G networks. "We have the world 's best technology in the 5G field, leading everything and making standards with our technology, but it' s just the beginning."
