SEOUL -- Hyundai Elevator, the largest elevator and escalator producer in South Korea, has developed a new system based on augmented and virtual reality technology that can help design elevators in advance before installation.

The company said Tuesday that its new system displays completed 3D images by selecting traction machines, doors, buttons, and interior material through mobile device applications.

When the tablet PC camera shows an existing elevator, a selected combination appears on the screen, and the gyro sensor function allows clients to open the door and check the inside as if they actually boarded it, the company said, adding selected combinations are stored in the history management function for consultations.

Hyundai Elevators said the system can be used to confirm a completed elevator in the most realistic environment and broaden choices. The company plans to apply its technology to the partial replacement market and then expand its scope to newly installed products.
