Variety, an American entertainment media, reported Monday that CJ Entertainment, a major South Korean filmmaker, would team up with Universal Pictures to recreate the Hollywood version of "Extreme Job".
According to the report, Kevin Hart, a 39-year-old American comedian, plans to take the main role in the remake of the 2019 film which depicts a story about a team of undercover detectives opening a fried chicken store for a drug-bust operation.
The film dominated South Korean cinemas soon after it was released on January 23 and attracted 5.25 million viewers, earning 91.5 billion won ($78.4 million) in ticket sales in the first five days of its opening. A total of 16,261,982 moviegoers have watched Extreme Job as of April 30, according to the Korean Film Council.
The popularity of Extreme Job was rare in South Korea's movie scene as it was created with a modest budget of 6.5 billion won and had no prominent actors and actresses.
