SEOUL -- Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), a sports and live entertainment company based in Los Angeles, partnered with CJ ENM, a top player in South Korea's entertainment market, to build a 20,000-seat arena for live K-pop performances in a Hallyu (Korean cultural wave) district to be build in Seoul's northwestern satellite city.
The arena for performances by K-pop and global artists in Goyang City will be built at the highest level in North Asia under the concept of a connected concert hall where live performances are remotely connected to the world, according to CJ LiveCity Corporation controlled by CJ ENM.
The arena designed by AEG is part of a broad complex that will house a cluster of studios, a K-culture themed park and a waterfront park. CJ officials hope it will become South Korea's largest and most advanced live performance venue for artist tours, sports events and Hallyu content.
The arena will be "a competitive venue" in Asia and globally, CJ LiveCity's CEO Michael Kim said in a statement, adding that together with its adjacent facilities, the arena would offer an indoor and outdoor experience
AEG will curate concert tours through its music division AEG Presents, which has promoted world tours for artists including Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Celine Dion, Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones and Katy Perry.
