SEOUL -- As part of its strategy to expand an overseas business network, Hyundai Glovis, a logistics arm of South Korea's Hyundai auto group, has made inroads into the American freight transportation industry.

Hyundai Glovis said Thursday that it held an opening ceremony this week for its American subsidiary called Global Expedited Transportation (GET) in Bloomington, California, for the direct transportation of vehicles, which was entrusted to a local transportation company. It would try to win orders in other areas.

At first, GET will transport parts from the west to a finished car plant in the East, with two truck drivers taking turns. Direct shipments will increase gradually to 70 percent of the total volume by 2023. Hyundai Glovis said it would expand its transportation business to import and export containers and finished vehicles to become a comprehensive carrier in the U.S.

Hyundai Glovis has expanded its business in Asia and other regions. In May, the company forged a strategic partnership with China's Changjiu Group to find new business opportunities and expand cooperation in local and global logistics businesses. The Chinese group is involved in the transportation of finished and uses vehicles.
