LGU+ said Tuesday that it signed a strategic business agreement with PTC Korea to build a 5G-based digital twin platform. Digital twin enables the unified simulation of a product, facilitating product improvements and enabling virtual prototyping of future products. The pairing of digital and physical worlds allows the analysis of data and monitoring of systems to head off problems before they even occur.
Through internet of things (IoT) sensors installed on tractors, both companies will collect and analyze information on engine consumables, real-time operational data, and the history of maintenance and repair. Customers will be notified immediately of any component failure or defect, and when to replace parts and consumables in advance.
Tractor parts are implemented as augmented reality, LGU+ said, adding that if abnormal symptoms are found, their location and details could be checked on a smartphone app. It is also possible to check how tractor parts and consumables are replaced with augmented reality, allowing customers to replace parts themselves.
