SEOUL -- Hello Nature, a South Korean online grocery store, launched an early morning delivery service for vegans who find hard to buy vegan products in a country where a plant-based dietary lifestyle has been seen by many as fastidious.

The grocery store said in a statement on Tuesday that it has opened "Vegan Zone", a special shopping category section for vegans, on its online shopping mall website. The vegan section provides a wide selection of products which do not contain animal substances.

"In Vegan Zone, customers can buy a variety of vegetables, fruits and nuts, which are the main dietary products for vegans, as well as receive goods fresh and fast through eco-friendly early morning deliveries," Hello Nature's marketing director Park Jeong-hwan was quoted as saying.

Veganism is regarded as an unfamiliar lifestyle in South Korea. According to the Korea Vegetarian Union, a vegan community, there are about 1.5 million vegans in the country and the number is increasing fast as more people wish to live healthily.

Hello Nature, which benchmarks Amazon Fresh, a grocery delivery service operated by American online shopping giant Amazon, began its online service in 2012 by connecting farmers and consumers directly.

The company has grown rapidly since 2017 when it started its early morning delivery service for fresh groceries. The service received explosive feedback from young housewives and singles. Through the early morning delivery service, Hello Nature has become one of the top three online grocery stores in South Korea.
