SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics unveiled its new smartwatch "Galaxy Watch Active2", embedded with strong connectivity features, that underscores efforts to compete with Apple in the growing smartwatch market.

Samsung said in a statement on Tuesday that the new smartwatch is designed purposefully to match the lifestyle of customers and offer more personalized customization to improve their daily health and wellness along with seamlessly connected living. Samsung did not disclose the price and release date of its new watch.

"With Galaxy Watch Active2, we have created a device that will enable consumers to take control of their health and wellness, and seamlessly flow between their devices and connect across the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem, making their lives easier and better," said Samsung's IT and mobile communications division head Koh Dong-jin.

Koh said Samsung would continue to expand its presence in the rapidly growing smartwatch market by bringing in new and visionary ways.

The new gadget comes in two sizes -- 44 millimeters (1.7 inches) and 40 millimeters in diameter -- and houses Samsung's symbolic rotating bezel that helps users navigate through the watch's features with ease. It is capable of tracking the movement of users whey they run and swim or sleep and stress levels.

Samsung said the new smartwatch features strong connectivity, allowing wearers to seamlessly control their smart device ecosystem. When connected to a smartphone, the watch can be used to take photographs and watch preview footage. It supports Samsung's artificial intelligence voice assistant platform to help users organize daily schedules and search for keywords on the web.

The smartwatch market is growing at an average annual growth rate of 16.2 percent to reach $31 billion by 2025, according to global market research company Allied Market Research. Apple has a 50 percent share while American wearable device maker Fitbit controls 12.2 percent and Samsung 11.8 percent.

Samsung's recent models, Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active,  have received positive feedback from customers.
