SEOUL -- Rapper Amber Liu, a U.S.-born singer based in South Korea, has said farewell to her band f(x) and fans in a handwritten letter uploaded to her social media.

"I would like to announce my contract with SM Entertainment has ended today and I have decided to part ways with the company," the 26-year-old said in a letter written in Korean and English uploaded onto her social media on Sunday. "I'd like to thank everyone who believed in me!" the rapper expressed gratitude toward her fans.

However, Amber left some clues about her future activities hinting at her solo debut. "I can't wait to show you what's in store in this next chapter of my career again!" she said.

Amber debuted in 2009 as a member of f(x), which was a five-member band before Sulli left to pursue her solo career in 2015. The band had been inactive since that year, leaving many fans disappointed.

It is unclear whether the rest of f(x) members -- Victoria, Luna and Crystal -- will carry on as a three-member team. Currently, Victoria, a 32-year-old Chinese member, is pursuing her singer-actress career in her homeland. Crystal, a 24-year-old younger sister of former Girls' Generation member Jessica, is active as an actress. Luna, a 26-year-old vocalist, serves as an actress.
