Samsung Medical Center, a tertiary hospital headquartered in southern Seoul, signed a memorandum of understanding with KT, a telecom company which is establishing a 5G network across South Korea, on the establishment of an innovative 5G smart hospital.
"We will work with Samsung Medical Center consistently to create a platform that enables business cooperation between medical teams based on 5G technology," KT's future platform division head Lee Dong-myeon said. "We are going to establish a base for spreading innovative smart hospitals through 5G."
KT will establish a 5G network at the Seoul campus of Samsung Medical Center, a proton treatment center, a cancer hospital and other facilities so that medical teams can check information on proton treatment in real-time. Functions would be developed to read digital pathology data and enable surgical education and collaborative care, all in real-time.
When 5G is applied with secured security, the large-scale image information of patients will be safely verified and checked anywhere in hospitals, enabling doctors to avoid the hassle of identifying pathological tissue samples only in a restricted location.
