SEOUL -- Tada, a leading ride-hailing service in South Korea, will strategically adopt an artificial intelligence-based data platform to strengthen its market competitiveness and increase the effectiveness of its vehicle dispatch system.

Tada, which operates 1,400 cars, officially launched its ride-hailing service using luxury multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) in October last year targeting the niche market of comfortable luxury transportation service. Currently, the ride-hailing service is only available in Seoul and its satellite cities.

"We have set the new goal of establishing a service supply network by forging partnerships with taxi companies and optimizing the supply to match customers' demands through an artificial intelligence-based data technology," Tada said in a statement on Monday.

The ride-hailing service plans to roll out a nationwide service and focus on developing an AI-based data platform that would effectively analyze big data to estimate customers' demands and control vehicle supply. Tada said that it will increase the number of vehicles to 10,000 by the end of 2020.

Startups have benchmarked Tada's service. Kakao Mobility, the mobility wing of South Korea's web service giant Kakao, operates some 4,500 taxis to provide a taxi-hailing service that automatically distributes taxis to customers without the need of revealing a destination.
