SEOUL -- South Korea's largest telecom company KT will beef up the competitiveness of its new over-the-top platform by adding some 100 new channels this week to compete with strong players such as Netflix, the world's top video-on-demand service.

KT said Thursday that it will add some 100 real-time TV and cable TV channels to "Seezn", an OTT video-on-demand (VOD) content service launched in November. KT will use the near-video-on-demand (NVOD) method to broadcast real-time TV channels through its OTT platform. NVOD live broadcasts TV channels using VOD technology.

Currently, Netflix is the top OTT service operator in South Korea with more than two million paid subscribers. Netflix has no real-time channels while Wavve provides some 80 real-time channels. Three major broadcasters and SK Telecom have jointly launched their combined OTT platform, Wavve.
