SEOUL -- SK Telecom, a top mobile carrier in South Korea, joined hands with security service and software companies to develop 5G drone solutions that can be applied to various areas such as security, disasters, the monitoring of public infrastructure, the measurement of an atmospheric environment and 3D surveying.

SK Telecom (SKT) signed a business cooperation agreement with its subsidiary, ADT Caps, and Innodep, a video security software provider, to release a drone solution utilizing the existing LTE network within this year and connect it to a 5G network later. SKT acquired ADT Caps, a major domestic security service provider, in 2018.

SKT will upgrade its 5G drone control system and provide technologies that transmit images based on a 5G network and image analysis engine technologies. Innodep will systemize SKT's technologies and establish a platform to analyze video image and sensor data. ADT Caps is in charge of joint planning and consulting as well as the establishment and maintenance of services.

They will jointly develop a convergence solution that combines 5G-based telecommunication, drones and AI-based image data analysis technology and expand their business in overseas markets.
"We will present convergence standards for intelligent image analysis based on 5G, drones and AI to revitalize the drone service market," SKT's chief technology officer Kim Yoon said in a joint statement.

"With new drone-based security markets being formed at a rapid pace at home and abroad, we expect this cooperation to serve as an opportunity to revitalize the domestic and overseas industrial drone markets," said Innodep CEO Grant Lee.
