SEOUL -- Based on a global positioning system and Internet of things, SK Telecom, a top mobile carrier in South Korea, partnered with Voice Caddie, the producer of golf course information devices, to develop services that provide precise information on the location of hole cups in real time.
SK Telecom (SKT) said that voice Caddie (VC) golf watches and laser-type distance measuring devices have applied auto pin location (APL) technology that allows users to check the exact location of the hole cup up to several centimeters.
Since the golf course's hole cup location changes frequently, it is essential to know the exact location and distance of the hole cup for precise play. SKT said that VC products are linked to the smartphone's app, the distance meter automatically identifies the pin location and guides the exact distance.
SKT and VC have already applied APL to about 40 golf courses nationwide. They will jointly develop golf services using 5G and artificial intelligence for detailed location measurements and cooperate to apply ultra-precision measurement to diverse industries such as agriculture and logistics.
