SEOUL -- GC Medical Science, the diagnostic kit maker wing of South Korean pharmaceutical company GC Pharma, will export COVID-19 antibody diagnostic kits.

A GC Medical Science official told Aju News on Tuesday that the company will export $12 million worth of "GENEDIA W ONE," a COVID-19 diagnostic kit, to eight countries including France, Saudi Arabia and France.

Antibody diagnostic kits detect the current or past presence of virus infection by analyzing blood samples. GC Medical Science said GENEDIA W ONE can detect the COVID-19 antibody from a small amount of blood sample in less than 15 minutes.

In June, the company signed a total of $42 million worth of export deals to export antibody diagnostic kits as well as "GENEDIA W," a real-time polymerase-chain-reaction (RT-PCR) COVID-19 diagnostic kit that amplifies specific DNA samples and takes at least six hours to get results.

The global demand for COVID-19 diagnostic kits skyrocketed after the pandemic of the highly contagious disease began in earnest in late February. The global market for COVID-19 diagnostic kits is expected to reach $44.4 billion by the end of this year, according to Market Study Report, a global market research firm.
