SEOUL -- LS Cable & Systems, a major South Korean cable maker, unveiled SimpleWide, a new local area network (LAN) cable capable of sending data and power up to 200 meters at the same time. The company promotes SimpleWide as the world's best that doubled the transmission distance of existing products.

LS Cable, best known for its ultra-high-voltage power cable system, said the new LAN cable can be mainly used to connect IP cameras and phones, closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) and Internet of things (IoT) equipment. SimpleWide can be easily installed on ceilings and niche spaces. A LAN is a computer network that interconnects computers within a limited area. LAN cables carry data in computer networking.

Access equipment such as hubs, which were needed to connect LAN cables at intervals of 100m, can be cut in half, the company said, adding it would target the rapidly growing market for smart factories and IoT infrastructure. "We will make efforts to develop next-generation convergence products and intelligent products," said LS Cable president Myung Roh-hyun.

LS Cable, which produces power and telecom cables and systems, as well as integrated modules and other related industrial materials, has diversified its business scope into battery parts and eco-friendly products. The company produces components for electric vehicle batteries in Poland.
