SEOUL -- Hyundai Motor, a top auto company in South Korea, launched its new IONIQ brand for three electric vehicle models installed with a dedicated battery platform called E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) that can run more than 450 kilometers on a single charge.

Hyundai said the new IONIQ brand features ultra-fast charging, spacious interior and future innovations that combine design, technologies and services to integrate in-car and out-of-car experiences for a seamless journey. The first model will be IONIQ 5 midsize crossover utility vehicles to be unveiled in 2021. Hyundai will introduce its IONIQ 6 sedan in 2022 and a large SUV in early 2024.

"The IONIQ brand will change the paradigm of EV customer experience," Hyundai Motor's global chief marketing officer Chon Won-hong said in a statement. "With a new emphasis on connected living, we will offer electrified experiences integral to an eco-friendly lifestyle."

The production of electric vehicles installed with E-GMP signals the start of the auto group's full-fledged campaign to replace combustion engines gradually with hydrogen fuel cells and premium electric batteries.

Using E-GMP, the vehicle interior will be reimagined as "smart living space” with highly adjustable seats, wireless connectivity and unique features such as a glove box designed as drawers, Hyundai said, adding the platform paradigm shift will extend into the user interfaces that will be simple, intuitive and ergonomically designed to help occupants feel at ease.
