SEOUL -- LS Cable & Systems, a major South Korean cable maker, has developed a new optical cable capable of preventing hacking by using a special optical fiber and strengthened coating that fundamentally blocks information leakage.

When the optical cable is bent round, the light escapes out due to its straightness, providing an opportunity for hackers to paralyze a network or connect hacking equipment to intercept optical signals. Infrared coatings and metal tubes have been used to prevent hacking, but they are not often used due to high manufacturing costs and difficult installation problems.

New technology makes it easy for hackers to steal data from fiber-optic cable networks by extracting light from ultra-thin fibers. LS Cable said anti-hacking optical cables can be introduced in financial companies, defense industries and data centers.

LS Cable has diversified its cable production to meet the needs of various industries. In September, the company commercialized telecom cables with carbon fiber that can be used for facility operation and system management in smart factories and buildings.
