Hyundai Mobis strengthens development capabilities in automotive semiconductors

SEOUL -- Hyundai Mobis, the parts-making wing of South Korea's Hyundai auto group, took over the semiconductor business of its affiliate to secure differentiated technological competitiveness in self-drying and future cars that require high-performance semiconductors and integrated control systems.

Hyundai Mobis said in a statement on December 11 that it signed a contract to absorb Hyundai Autron's semiconductor business for 133.2 billion won ($122 million). Hyundai Autron has produced non-memory semiconductors and electronic control systems for cars.

As a crucial partner in the development of Hyundai Motor's self-driving technology, Hyundai Mobis has accelerated the development of sensors, cameras and other parts for autonomous vehicles and infotainment for autonomous vehicles.

The deal is aimed at strengthening specialized development capabilities in automotive semiconductors and securing differentiated technological competitiveness in future cars, Hyundai Mobis said, adding it would develop system semiconductors, power semiconductors and high-performance semiconductors after strengthening development capabilities in automotive semiconductors.
