SEOUL -- At its online keynote session at Consumer Electronics Show, Samsung Electronics has unveiled a new processor chip for mobile devices. Samsung's first premium 5G-integrated processor chip would power the company's flagship Galaxy smartphones.

"Today we are delighted to introduce the Exynos 2100, our most advanced mobile processor yet. Armed with powerful processing technologies and an advanced 5G modem on a power-efficient 5-nanometer process node, Exynos 2100 will set a new standard for tomorrow’s flagship mobile devices," Samsung's System LSI Business president Kang In-yup said during the presentation.

Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world's biggest annual electronics show that was traditionally held in Las Vegas, went fully online this year with some 2,000 companies operating virtual showrooms due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Samsung, the chip that was built on a 5-nanometer extreme ultra-violet (EUV) node is up to 30 percent faster in multi-core performance faster than its Exynos predecessors. It is also up to 40 percent faster in graphic processing, making the Exynos chip capable of maximizing the experience of users that are engaged in gaming, virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), and augmented reality (AR).

Exynos 2100 also features strong artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. It can perform up to 26 trillion operations per second with more than twice the power efficiency than its older brothers. The on-board AI chip can connect to neural networks to offer users more enjoyable interactive and smart features.

Samsung said that it is mass producing Exynos 2100. Industry experts predict the powerful new chip will be used in Galaxy S21, Samsung's new flagship smartphone scheduled for release in the first half of this year.
