SEOUL -- SK Innovation teamed up with a rental and leasing wing of South Korea's SK Group to develop an artificial intelligence-based service that evolves data analysis algorithms on its own, using a system that analyzes real-time data on batteries for electric vehicles.

SK Innovation (SKI), a major battery producer in South Korea, will work with SK Rent-a-Car to create an automatic management system that can always keep batteries in good conditions for safe and long use.

SKI's battery analysis capability and SK Rent-a-Car's management solution were combined to produce a new solution that can analyze battery usage data in real-time, predict battery life, and detect anomalies such as overheating. The solution will be used on a trial basis for the long-term rental of electric vehicles to monitor and analyze changes in battery conditions that occur when electric cars operate, stop and charge.

SKI said it can advance data analytics capabilities and expand them to various Battery as a Service. "We will provide technical support so that consumers can use high-quality batteries for a longer period of time through monitoring services," SKI's battery marketing division head Kim Yoo-suk said in a statement on April 30.
