SEOUL -- Seeking a business model that can meet demands for the digital transformation of conventional logistics infrastructure into an eco-friendly and sustainable system, South Korea's top oil company SK Energy joined hands with Logisquare, a domestic business-to-business logistics service company. They will add charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles at old logistics stations.

Digital transformation is a process in which a traditional service or a traditional work-based company undergoes a major change to acquire a more efficient digital system-based work solution. Digital systems that incorporate artificial intelligence, renewable energy, sustainable growth and big data greatly reduce the energy consumption of a company while boosting its work efficiency.

SK Energy said in a statement on August 30 that the company signed a cooperation agreement with Logisquare to jointly roll out business models that focus on the popularization of charging infrastructure for clean energy vehicles and a logistics service management solution.

Logisquare with some 1,000 partner companies has a monthly logistics capability of 60,000 deliveries. The company has 16 logistics centers across South Korea. SK Energy will help the business-to-business (B2B) logistics company to change its delivery trucks to eco-friendly vehicles powered by electricity and hydrogen. Charging infrastructure will be set up at Logisquare's delivery hubs.

The South Korean refiner will also offer a total logistics service management solution called "Muffin Truck." The all-in-one solution will replace Logisquare's old solution to manage cargo, drivers, payment, and vehicles.
