SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics has developed a comprehensive solution for 5G voice call services that allows users to enjoy true 5G speeds when playing high-performance games or streaming high-quality videos even while staying on a call.
The comprehensive solution for voice over new radio (VoNR) will be provided to global mobile device manufacturers and network providers. Samsung said that VoNR technology supports both voice call and data services using 5G networks without switching into 4G networks when making voice calls, and provides a higher chance of maintaining connection in voice calls as well as faster call connection times.
Samsung said that VoNR can speed up the development of various application services based on the metaverse digital world that offers firsthand experiences, created by the convergence of physical reality and virtual spaces.
The VoNR solution includes key technologies such as an internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS), quality of service (QoS), and handover. IMS enables all multimedia services, such as audio, video, and extensive data services, within a single IP network.
QoS provides stable support for 5G VoNR and the technology that assists uninterrupted handover between nearby network base stations. QoS analyzes the flow of data using the network and determines the priority of services in real-time. Samsung said its protocol stack places the highest priority on voice calls anytime, anywhere, thereby enhancing the quality of VoNR.
