SEOUL -- South Korea's main thoroughbred race park has adopted a smart guide robot developed by LG Electronics to assist visitors. Using a 27-inch display panel, the guidebot provides race results and other types of information including a map and routes.

An "LG CLOI Guidebot" was deployed at the Seoul Race Park located at the southeastern outskirt of the capital city on November 5. The guidebot greets and assists visitors. "LG's differentiated robot solution can meet a variety of customer demands. We will become the best business partner by providing upgraded robot services," LG's robot business director Roh Kyu-chan said in a statement.

LG made a foray into the domestic service robot market in 2017 by deploying a guidebot to Incheon International Airport, South Korea's main gateway, to help visitors navigate around the gigantic facility. The company commercialized autonomous service robots that roamed about a Seoul hospital in 2020 to sanitize and detect people not wearing face masks.

South Korea's food delivery service market valued at 23 trillion won in 2020 has become LG's new testing ground for delivery robots. The company has partnered with GS25, a major domestic convenience store franchise, to demonstrate a delivery robot that can carry groceries and drinks up and down floors of a building using an elevator. Different types of serving robots were deployed to restaurants to carry food from the kitchen to customers' tables.
