SEOUL -- LG Electronics showcased an artificial intelligence-based management solution for hotels and resorts that uses a four-wheeled robot for monitoring facilities.

LG Electronics said in a statement on December 1 that the company started the operation of the management solution involving the four-wheeled robot at Konjiam Resort southeast of Seoul. The resort's manager can monitor facilities and provide help for visitors using the autonomous robot. When idle, the robot will roam around the resort and check if there are any problems.

The management solution also incorporates 5G, autonomous driving and decentralized identity (DID) technologies. DID is a blockchain-based identification system that can generate and give unique digital identities for individual items. Blockchain is a virtual ledger service that is considered to be virtually unhackable. To prevent forgery or alteration of data collected by the robot, LG adopted DID technology to give unique identification numbers to facilities.

LG said that the company created the hotel and resort management solution to prepare for future market demands by clients who wish to efficiently manage their businesses using AI and robot solutions.

LG has deployed various autonomous serving robots to many facilities including hotels, hospitals and department stores. In October 2020, the company deployed two robots that can handle repetitive chores at two hospitals. The robots can carry up to 15 kilograms (33 pounds) in their compartments. Another one of LG's autonomous service robots is being used to guide visitors at Seoul's education institute. The robot will also serve as an assistant to offer book-related information and help visitors to find books at the education center's library in 2022.
