Presidential transition team receives over 23,000 policy suggestions from citizens

The number of policy suggestions ordinary citizens filed with the presidential transition committee exceeded 23,000, the committee's spokesman said on Feb. 3.

The transition team has received nearly 1,000 suggestions for a total of 23,734 ideas on a wide range of issues such as better treatment of teachers, halving college tuition fees, an overhaul of the pension system, real estate policies and measures to help small merchants, the spokesman, Yoon Chang-jung, told reporters.

The ideas are mostly related to the people's living such as education, employment, welfare and economy, Yoon said.

By region, Seoul topped the list with 7,603 suggestions, followed by Gyeonggi Province with 5,308, Incheon with 1,408 and Busan with 1,304.

The transition committee gave an answer to 7,652 suggestions, or 32.2 percent of the total suggestions, each, and another 7,247 ideas are currently under review, the spokesman said.

President-elect Park Geun-hye is set to be sworn in as the country's first female president on Feb. 25.
