Only 3.5 billion won was invested into the production of the movie, directed by Lee Hwan-kyung, according to the NEW.
The comedy attracted a total of 10,000,911 moviegoers as of 9:30 p.m. Saturday, the distributor said.
Only seven other South Korean films have so far surpassed the 10 million mark. The most recent milestone was recorded last year by the costume drama "Gwanghae: the Man Who Became the King" starring actor Lee Byung-hun.
"Miracle in Cell No. 7" depicts a retarded, childish man who raises a young daughter in cell No. 7 with the help of other inmates.
