The Seoul metropolitan government Tuesday issued an ultra fine dust (PM-2.5) alert for most parts of the capital, asking residents to reduce outdoor activities and refrain from driving cars. PM-2.5 refers to harmful airborne particles that are 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter.

The ultra fine dust alert was the second of its kind this year.

The concentration level of ultra fine dust particles in Seoul reached an average of 61 micrograms per cubic meter as of 1 p.m. In Seongdong-gu, the concentration level rose to 88 micrograms per cubic meter.

On Monday night, a fine dust (PM-10) alert was issued in Seoul. PM-10 refers to airborne particles that are 10 micrometers or less in diameter.
