China had successfully launched its most sophisticated observation satellite, Gaofen-4. The satellite is a part of the nation’s high-definition (HD) observation project on Tuesday.

Gaofen-4 is China’s geosynchronous orbit HD optical imaging satellite, which is one of the world’s most sophisticated orbit remote sensing satellite, Xu Dazhe, the head of China National Space Administration (SASTIND) introduced.

Located at the orbit 36,000 kilometers away from the earth, it will be used for disaster prevention and relief. According to SASTIND, Gaofen-4 is also used for meteorologic forecast, picking up signs before and after natural disasters to minimize its damages.

Gaofen-4 is the 19th space mission carried out by the Chinese government. Gaofen project aims to launch seven HD observation satellites before 2020.
