In a series of deep water submersion tests carried out by a YouTuber, Apple's latest iPhone 7 survived while its archrival Samsung Galaxy S7 did not.
One of the most welcomed new features of the latest iPhone 7 is its water tightness.
Compared to iPhones, most other brands had featured protection from water. Now, Apple's new iPhone 7 series feature IP67 watertight rating, meaning the device is completely protected from dust and could survive from being temporarily submerged underwater up to a depth of one meter (3.2 feet).
Galaxy S7's watertight rating is a level higher than Apple's at IP68, providing protection from being submerged underwater up to a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
In theory, Samsung's smartphone should have shown better results than Apple's in submersion tests. However, in a recent test carried out by YouTuber "EverythingApplePro", Apple's new smartphone survived in deeper waters than Galaxy S7, though the new iPhone has a lower watertight rating than its rival.
Tests were carried out in depths of 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, and 35 feet. Both the iPhone 7 and the Galaxy S7 survived for five minutes each up to 30 feet, but Samsung's smartphone failed to survive the 35 feet test while the iPhone 7 succeeded.
However, the test was not done in a controlled laboratory condition and should only be considered a fun experiment. Although many companies say their smartphones are watertight, most smartphone damages under water are not generally covered by manufacturers' standard warranty.
