CJ CheilJedang, a major South Korean food and food service company, vowed to double the production of animal feed in Southeast Asia by 2020, citing the region's growing meat demand.

The world's largest producer of lysine, an amino acid used as additives for animal feed and food additives, has built an overseas network of animal feed plants in China and Southeast Asian countries.

On Tuesday, CheilJedang completed its construction work on two more Indonesian plants capable of producing 440,000 tons of feed for fish and poultry farms annually. With the new plants, CheilJedang can now produce about 2.8 million tons of animal feed annually from 12 plants in Southeast Asia.

The company said it would double its total production in Southeast Asia by 2020 to clinch a solid lead in the region's fast-growing animal feed market. Next year, it plans to build another plant in Indonesia, two in Vietnam, and one more in the Philippines.

To meet growing meat demand in Southeast Asia, CheilJedang aims to increase the number of chicken and pig farms from 37 this year to 58 by 2020. The manufacturer of food ingredient, food, pharmaceutics, and biotechnology has expanded globally with offices in the United States, Brazil, Australia, and Asian countries.
