Son Heung-min, a South Korean player for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur, will have surgery this week because of a fracture in the radius of his forearm that would require at least four weeks for a full recovery, the Korea Football Association said Thursday.
The 25-year-old was put to a close examination at Kyunhee University Medical Center in Seoul Wednesday after he arrived in South Korea with a cast on his right arm. He was forced out during a match in Qatar after he landed on his right arm. South Korea suffered a 3-2 loss in the final Asian qualifying round for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Son is the main striker for South Korea's national team, with 17 goals in 53 international matches. With four wins, one draw and three losses, South Korea stood second in Group A while Iran have already clinched a berth in the final tournament in Russia.
