This horrendous story is any parent's worst nightmare and more. A 10-year-old girl was brutally raped several times by her uncle but was silenced by fear. She then complained abdominal pain in mid-July this year and her parents took her to the hospital immediately. To their horror, the doctors notified the parents that their precious daughter was pregnant.

The girl then confessed what her uncle did to her and he was arrested soon after. Because her pregnancy was found after 20 weeks, she was denied an abortion by the Supreme Court of India.

The girl gave birth to a baby girl weighing 4.8 pounds (2.2 kg) by C-section on the morning of August 17. The innocent girl doesn't know what happened to her. She is not aware that she was pregnant and she gave birth to a baby as her parents and doctors withheld the information from the girl. The parents told her she just had a big stone in her stomach.

The baby is said to be healthy despite being born prematurely at 35 weeks. The newborn has been in the neonatal intensive care unit of the hospital and will be remaining there for several weeks until declared to be in stable condition.

The 10-year-old mother will remain hospitalized for about 10 days as both pregnancy and giving birth are incredibly burdensome to her underdeveloped and fragile body.

This is the first reported case of a child as young as this girl giving birth in India and her story has been making headlines for weeks.

Many child rape survivors filed petitions that allow rape victims to get an abortion after 20 weeks. Normally the child rape victims are not aware of their condition until much later into the pregnancy as this 10-year-old girl was.

The parents of the girl did not want anything to do with the newborn at this point and the baby will be put up for adoption.

India has the staggering amount of child rape and gang rape cases. There were over 10,000 reported child rape incidents in 2015 alone.
