US and South Korea troops will hold a joint sea drill in a show of force against North Korea this month when an American aircraft carrier strike group arrives, the defense ministry said.

The ministry gave no timetable, saying only that the drill would be held this month along with the deployment of an aircraft carrier strike group near the Korean peninsula. It declined to confirm news reports that the USS Michigan, an Ohio-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, and the Nimitz-class USS Ronald Reagan would be deployed.

At talks in New York last month, South Korean President Moo Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to expand the rotational deployment of key American military assets.  U.S. strategic bombers and stealth warplanes have already made flights near the North's territory despite Pyongyang's threat to shoot them down.
