SEOUL -- A 98-year-old man will have to live the rest of his life probably in prison after a court sentenced him to four years in prison for stabbing the belly of his wife three times with a knife while wrangling over family affairs. He is now the oldest prisoner in South Korea.

The court on the southern resort island of Jeju ruled on Thursday that the old man was convicted of an attempted murder. The wife was seriously wounded but saved her life at a hospital.

The man went berserk and stabbed his 87-year-old wife three times on September 19 last year when she rejected an offer to live together, Yonhap News Agency reported.

The wife moved to the home of her son two months ago when his husband wielded a fist in a row over their children, Yonhap said, adding the man felt insulted and enraged by the cold-hearted attitude of his wife who allegedly shouted, "Bug off to a nursing home and live there until your death!".
