SEOUL -- Samsung Electronics unveiled a new smartwatch called Galaxy Watch, which features better health-related functions than its previous Gear brand and analog watch ticks and hourly chimes. It boasts a depth effect that casts shadows defining every detail on the face for a traditional look and feel.

Galaxy Watch, showcased in New York, brings the best of the Samsungs Galaxy ecosystem with long-lasting battery life, LTE connectivity, wellness capabilities and a timeless and personalized design. Its improved battery life eliminates the need for daily charging.

"We are delivering them with connected experiences, all at the touch of a wrist," Koh Dong-jin, CEO of Samsung's IT and mobile communications division, said in a statement.

Samsung said users can also start and end their day with morning and evening briefings to help stay on top of reminders, weather and their latest schedule. It features analog watch ticks and hourly chimes, and a depth effect that casts shadows defining every detail on the watch face for a traditional look and feel.

Samsung said Galaxy Watch offers a "true holistic" health experience with its new stress management tracker, which automatically detects high levels of stress, and monitors all levels of sleep to help users adjust sleeping habits.

The company said 21 new indoor exercises were added, tracking 39 workouts that allow consumers to customize and change up their routines. Galaxy Watch will be available starting in the United States on August 24, in South Korea on August 31 and in additional select markets on September 14.
