SEOUL -- South Korea's LG Electronics added a new wearable robot capable of supporting human legs and strengthening their muscle strength to a CLOi lineup of service and other robots. The LG CLOi SuitBot will be showcased next week at a tech fair in Germany.

LG said Thursday that its wearable robot can be used in various industrial fields. It is designed to wear and take off with ease by using a special cradle, which improves the unnatural and inconvenient fit of other wearable robots.

"The wearer can easily carry heavy loads with much less force. It helps users who have trouble walking move easily," the company said in a statement. The wearable robot will be shown at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA), which opens on August 31 in Berlin.

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology will allow wearable robots to learn through the recognition and analysis of vbiometric and environment data, measuring the movements of users to predict and avoid risks.
Tech firms have developed robots equipped with AI features.

LG has expanded its investment in South Korean robot-related startups to develop new robot solutions using artificial intelligence. LG's guide and cleaning robots were put into service at Incheon International Airport, South Korea's gateway west of Seoul.

"We will continue to show robots that can truly empathize with our customers while giving them real convenience and benefits," Ryu Hye-jeong, managing director of LG's smart home & appliance (H&A) unit, was quoted as saying.

LG nurtures its robot business as one of its new growth engines. It made a strategic investment in Bossa Nova Robotics, a San Francisco-based startup that creates retail robots. LG CLOi SuitBot was designed in collaboration with SG ROBOTICS, a Seoul-based developer of wearable robots.
